Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner

It's Finally Here!!!
I've been waiting all year for Thanksgiving dinner! I'm so lucky because I get to have it two nights in a row this time around. Our best friends, Wes and Rita, invited us to share TD with them tonight and then tomorrow we're going to Ted's parent's house for round two! Oh I'm so excited! Gluttony for two whole days! I hope everyone has a safe Thanksgiving!

It's still raining here. That's a wonderful thing because the Santa Ana winds are coming in again and they normally cause those notorious wild fires! I am thankful for the rain! **********************************************************

  • 20 days until I'm on a much needed Christmas Break from school
  • 26 days until I'm in Virginia celebrating Christmas with family
  • 29 days until I'm in New York! (For the first time!)

I'm So Lucky

It's a shame that we only designate ONE day to celebrating and appreciating the people and things that we're thankful for. I feel so fortunate to have such an amazing boyfriend, a wonderful core group of friends and most of all, the best family in the world! I love you and thank you every day of the year! It's starting to get cold and rainy down here in San Diego (finally, I mean it is almost December!) It seems like the "cold bug" hit extra hard this season. As I'm slowly feeling normal again, Ted is quickly feeling sicky! Let's all hope that he feels better for the holidays!

I'm getting so excited about Christmas! We have a jammed packed vacation schedule but it will be worth it! I get to go to New York for the first time and best of all, at Christmas time! Living in San Diego, we don't have many "winter" clothes so it's been a pleasure buying long johns and wool jackets!

Pumpkin Pie with a Twist

I've never been much of a baker but this Thanksgiving I'm going to give it a try.
I found this recipe for a Pumpkin-Ginger Pie with a Golden Marshmallow Topping. Sounds so yummy!

I've also been knitting up a storm between scarfs, little scarfins and the one I'm most proud of, a slouchy beret. They seem to be popping up everywhere!

Today in History
On November 19, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln delivered a short speech at the close of ceremonies dedicating the battlefield cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Requested to offer a few remarks, Lincoln memorialized the Union dead and highlighted the redemptive power of their sacrifice. Placing the common soldier at the center of the struggle for equality, Lincoln reminded his listeners of the higher purpose for which blood was shed.

Happy Friday--Holiday Countdown

How is it that I wait for the Holidays all year long but when they finally come I'm so unprepared and it's almost like they snuck up on me?
I can't believe that there's only:
*12 days left until Thanksgiving
*41 days left until Christmas
Along with every other person in America, I am flat broke this year! This means I'm doing homemade presents for all my friends and family. I've been working on scarfs galore but I just found the cutest idea for making ornaments.

Take a look at these cuties!

Today Is A Very Special Day

November 11, 2008
Veterans Day was once called Armistice Day. It marked the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 when the guns fell silent in Europe, and the doughboys and sailors and Marines who'd gone to fight World War I could come home. It has become an international tradition to observe a two-minute period of silence and reflection at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. This is usually followed by laying of wreaths to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
If you're looking for ways to honor and remember our veterans, click here
And it's also my best friend, Cody Alane's birthday!!! I love you my friendie!

Yes We Can

I rushed home from school just in time to see Barack Obama glide over the 270 mark and I was completely overcome with joy!!! The people on my street were screaming and chanting and it was like all of the anticipation of this election was released in one joint moment.

I was almost brought to tears during Obama's acceptance speech. He has such a poetic and rhythmic way of speaking and I've never felt this passionate and hopeful about any president and my country in my lifetime. There's so much work to be done to right all of the wrongs but I have faith that this is the beginning of something great!
Thank you for voting!

Election Day

Election Day 2008
I drove to the Golden Hill Golf Course Voting Poll early this morning. It was pouring down rain but I got there safely and in good time. There was a pretty long line but some how it only took 20 minutes for me to get through the line and place my vote. Please don't let the long lines and wait prevent you from voting! I heard a great commercial. It said "Vote or Shut Up". Basically, unless you vote, you can't complain about things not going your way because you didn't vote to make the difference!

This weekend I'm planning on going up to San Jacento to do a little hiking and camping. Hopefully the weather will work with those plans!

Susan G. Komen 5K Race for the Cure

Ted, Cody and I walked down to Balboa Park early Sunday morning to join the thousands of people who were all there supporting The Cure for Breast Cancer. People of all ages were there either running or walking in their Breast Cancer "gear". It looked like a flowing sea of pink.

If you've never been, it's truly an amazing sight!

I hope everyone had a great, safe weekend!

Tomorrow is a day that I feel will go down in history. How amazing is it that we're a part of it?
